The Indonesian government has filed a civil law suit to recover money said to have been embezzled by the country’s former President Suharto. Prosecutors say he must explain what happens to more than 400 million dollars which they say is missing from a charitable foundation. From Jakarta, Lucy Williamson reports.

"One of Indonesia’s most senior prosecutors said that 85% of the money channeled to Mr. Suharto’s Supersemar Foundation had gone missing. The money which was a mixture of state funds and private donations was meant to fund education projects in the country. Instead, prosecutors say, 400 million US dollars was given to companies with links to the Suharto family. Many of those companies are now bankrupt. And officials say if the allegations are proven, they’ll reclaim the money from assets belonging to Mr. Suharto and the foundation itself. ”
